DoornkloofDiamcor's So Ver Mine processed tailings from the original So Ver mine and others in the area that worked the Ardo Fissure (Dyke) system in the 1960's to the late 1970's. Historical records referred to a parallel dyke system (the "Doornkloof West" dyke) approximately 500 metres to the west of the Ardo Dyke, but gave little additional details. During January 2006, Diamcor carried out a program of trenching to try to locate the inferred Doornkloof West dyke. During the course of trenching, two small Kimberlite pipes, or "blows" were delineated; the "North Blow" and "South Blow". The trenching program was unsuccessful in locating any Kimberlite dyke system associated with these blows. All the trenches outside of the blows exposed shale, covered by thin soil and up to two metres of calcrete. Bulk samples from each blow, each of approximately 2,000 tonnes, were mined and treated through the So Ver plant. The excavations were done with 20 or 30 tonne capacity excavators and were directed and supervised by independent consultants. The bulk samples from both blows produced few diamonds and those only from the South Blow, such that the overall grade of each sample was negligible, albeit of good quality. The purpose of the Company's efforts in this regard were to determine and identify any significant kimberlite occurrence on the property, and with this initial work complete, the Company elected to minimize it's exposure to the risks and costs associated with further exploration by partnering with Trans Hex to complete additional evaluations. This work was completed, and no further efforts in this regard have been undertaken. |
